Similar films to our chosen film
28 days later is very similar to our film as our film focuses on a post apocalyptic world fighting for survival. Furthermore, our film features the likes of DNA killing the survivors off which is similar to 28 days later as the infected infect people with what's in their blood. This post apocalyptic film is the main inspiration for our film as it shows how out of hand the spread of disease can become.
The 5th wave is also a post apocalyptic film where humanity is fighting for survival. This film is similar to ours as the main cast are fighting off infected humans whereas ours are fighting a disease that could infect humans and end humanity as we know it. The cinematography used in the fifth wave features general shots of what you would find in a normal post apocalyptic films such as close ups on the characters face to show their expressions and extreme long shots to show the upcoming threat. In our own film we will feature these kind of shots as they are specific to a post apocalyptic scenario as well as adding an eyeline match to smoothly connect the two shots from close up to extreme long shot.
Another film similar to our film is Spider Man. Even though this film isn't a post apocalyptic film, the theme of the film matches our groups film as Spiderman is infected by DNA and all of our main characters are infected by DNA leading to the post apocalypse. Spiderman uses interesting cinematography techniques such as shallow focuses to attract the viewers attention to a certain stimulus or event.
The most similar film to our groups is invasion of the body snatchers. This 1956 science fiction horror consists of an extra terrestrial invasion where alien plant spores have fallen from space and grown into large seed pods that are capable of reproducing a copy of a human being at a rapid rate and can potentially take over the world. As the copies spawn, they take out the original copies to invade earth leading to a post apocalyptic environment for the real humans. This is similar to our film as our film is a post apocalyptic film where the source of the problem came from DNA and the aliens in the invasion of the body snatchers copy DNA to lead to an apocalypse for the real humans. An interesting cinematography technique used in this film is how they partially filmed this in film noir. As a group, we could use this technique to add mystery to our film and make the film old fashioned. We would have to use this as an editing technique as our camera would film in colour.
