Sound
In a post apocalyptic film there is usually a protagonist and an antagonist who are willing to destroy each other in some sort of way. Due to this, we suspect that quite upbeat, dramatic music would be included. Incidental music is usually used to emphasise a sort of conflict, whether that is physical or emotional. However, the incidental music is usually used to underline the fact that a physical war is about to occur.

This music is used in 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later to highlight the fact that people (or mostly Jim in 28 Days Later) is going to collide with a group of zombies some time soon and which ,once he does, the music starts to get louder and starts to include drum beats to emphasise further that he could get hurt or even killed.
Sound effects are often used to highlight the destruction and incident going on. For example, if someone is shooting a gun then sound effects would be used to make the weapon seem more serious and dangerous, creating an adrenaline rush or excitement in the demographic as they see the situation more frightening.
An equal amount of non diagetic and diagetic sound is used in post apocalyptic films, there would be occasional scenes where incidental music would be used. There isnt usually a voice over, as in a post apocalyptic film the audience is oblivios as to how the 'survivors' will cope in the tradgedy they have found themselves in, therefore a voice over would not be the most suitable thing to place in, as it will hint how the survivors will live, therefore taking away the excitement and curiosity from the viewers.
Iconography
Iconography in a post apocalyptic film varies depending on where the situation is. Often, locations such as a deserted city.
28 Days Later shows a clear example of iconography, as the beginning scenes are filmed in London which is a very iconic place and due to London being 'lifeless' this therefore portrays that there has been a disaster or an 'apocalypse'.
Anther icon which is usually suspected in a post-apocalyptic film is some sort of 'villain' , which is usually a zombie or an alien. Films such as 28 Days Later, Shaun of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Dead Rising and Zombieland all have 'zombies' in which therefore shows that zombies are iconic for post-apocalyptic films.
Some symbols which are usually seen in a post apocalyptic film are:
These symbols show the ideas of "toxic" or " dangerous", "religion" or even more specific "Christianity". The religious symbol put forward the idea that the survivors in a post-apocalyptic film can only rely on 'God' now, for their survival. Other aspects of helping them have been destroyed and therefore religion, not science, is their last hope.
PropsProps that are often used in a post-apocalyptic film are usually; guns, knives, fire and other weapons usually liked to war. This is due to the fact that in most main post-apocalyptic films, the apocalypse has happened and the reason for the apocalypse is still 'living' and there. For instance, in Dawn of the Dead, the apocalypse was caused by a zombie outbreak and even after everything got shut down and most people died, the zombies are still walking and therefore weapons are a signal to indicate that there is still people killing the villain and trying to survive.
Titles
The titles of a post apocalyptic film vary. However, the most main type of colours used are mostly : black, grey, red or yellow. The black signifies the idea of 'lost' or 'mystery' as the colour black is usually seen when you cant actually see. Additionally, the colour grey is a colour which gives connotations of dust and rain, which makes the reader think that the film is quite sad or stressful. Red is quite a common colour for death, danger and destruction. Therefore, if red is used in a title sequence then the demographic will feel as though there is danger and destruction included or that destruction has already happened. Red also connotes blood, making the viewers quite curious as to whether there is violence and blood involved.
