Evaluation 7

Evaluation 7

Before filming our final film, we decided it would be a good idea to do preliminary tasks to get us used to filming and editing. In our preliminary exercise we did a continuity task involving the filming and editing for: a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, as well as exchanging a few lines of dialogue. This preliminary task helps us demonstrate filming techniques such as: match on action, shot reverse shot and the 180 degree rule. By demonstrating these examples and practicing all of these techniques, this prepared us for our final film as we know a lot of filming techniques as well as some editing techniques from premier pro where we edited the footage to cut whenever our character was transitioning positions.

After we finished this preliminary exercise, we decided to incorporate these techniques into our final film. We did this in a few scenes such as right at the beginning we include a match on action of our main character opening the gate. By adding in these techniques this clearly conveys our understanding of filming and editing techniques as we have practiced and demonstrated when to cut our film. Furthermore, when it came to our final film we found out we became better at editing due to the fact that we added in a news bulletin to our films as well as some interesting transitions between shots including a non-diegetic sound bridge that we haven’t used previously.
If we were to do this exercise again we would improve this by adding a tricky shot list so we can record when we can add In difficult shots and we would also know when these shots would be effective as we would have planned the shots out to match the films storyline.
