Continuity-Nicole Collins French

Continuity-Nicole Collins French
Continuity is essential when creating a film because if the continuity is good then the audience watching the film will not realise a change in shots, will not suspect anything unusual and will not be confused with what is happening in the film. In shorter terms, continuity gives consistency in a film, allowing the reader to follow the film with no confusion. There are many types of continuity when producing a film.
Acting continuity is important. Actors need to continue to do the same action and say the right things following the previous and allowing the next shot to come smoothly, without the audience noticing that the shot has changed.
Costume and prop continuity is also crucial. There must not be any sudden appearing objects or disappearing objects without the reader knowing how the object came or went.
Technical continuity is also significant. This includes the 180 degree rule, match on action rule and shot reverse shot. For example, if the 180 degree line rule is broken then a character's position in a film will seem to have changed from the last shot, without no explanation of how, making the audience confused.
