The editing in a romance movie
The editing of romance films is usually fast at the beginning to show an unsteady equilibrium, short takes and straight cuts are usually used , then once the two main characters meet the editing is quite slow (long takes are used) to connote passion and love. Once the equilibrium gets restored then a dilemma occur, destroying the equilibrium again, where then the editing becomes fast paced to show the idea that something is unstable and confusing. Then when one of the characters (usually a male) tries to fix the situation, slow paced editing is used to show the idea that he is TRYING to fix the issue, but it is only coming together very slowly. Once the problem is sorted the editing is quite natural and normal paced, straight cuts and sometimes a fade out is used.
The music in a romance movie
The music of a romance film is usually soft, gentle music with calm, rare, sound effects to connote elegance between the characters, until something happens between them. Then once something does happen the music becomes more non-diegetic and the music used is more tense to show that the relationship is becoming broken. Not may sound effects are used, that way the demographic of the movie can relate more to the situation that the two characters are in.
Mise-en-scene
In a teen romance movie, the setting is usually where teenagers tend to be, for example: high school, college, bowling arena, cinemas. This is because teenagers often bond once they are in a place they feel comfortable in. Often, characters in a teen romance film have specific clothing styles to show who they are stereotypically, for example: a cheerleader in her cheerleader outfit, there would be a jock, a geek, and other stereotypes like those which would be sown by the way they dress.
